Can you help? Growing Illawarra Natives is looking for the best local native street trees!

Anyone who reads this blog knows that the Growing Illawarra Natives team is passionate about seeing our streets lined with local native trees. And right now we need your help! We're compiling a list of the best-looking street trees across the Illawarra region, to show residents and decision-makers just what awesome shade, colour and habitat they can provide.

We've got good photos for many trees, but there are a few where it's been hard to find a tree that makes a good photographic subject. It needs to be more or less on its own, not surrounded by other trees, or blocked by buildings. And for a few species, we just haven't been able to track down a single specimen in the streets!

A beautiful old Illawarra Plum Pine Podocarpus elatus next to the Smith St cycleway in Wollongong. Incidentally, this is a great place to collect fruit, as the tree fruits heavily in good years - just watch out for people riding in the bike lanes! Image by Leon Fuller.

Have you seen one of the below trees looking absolutely awesome on a verge near you? Or in a park? Or as a specimen tree in a front garden? If so, drop us a line at growingillawarranatives AT gmail DOT com and let us know. Ideally, share a beautiful photo too!!
