Celebrating: the power of plants as Wollongong Botanic Garden turns 50

Wollongong Botanic Garden turned 50 in January 2021 and is hosting celebratory activities throughout the year. One of the biggest events is on tomorrow Sunday 30 June, Botanic Gardens Day, and everyone's invited!

There's a full program of activities events running from 10am to 4pm, including:

  • Behind the scenes nursery tours (online booking needed)
  • Bush Tucker Garden tours with Clarence Slockee (register on the day)
  • Seeds to Shoots walking tours
  • The Tree Musketeers Show
  • and a panel discussion on the Power of Plants, hosted by Costa Georgiades, and broadcast live to the world from WBG!
Or you can take things at your own pace with the new Nature Wellness Self-guided Trail, a kids scavenger hunt, botanic art and photography exhibition at the Towri Centre, food stalls and buggy tours provided by the hard-working Friends of the Garden.

In fact there's so much on that the Wollongong Botanic Garden recommends planning your day in advance! You can read all about it and make bookings on the dedicated event page:

And there are even some events that aren't on the list (hint: live music on the Mercury Lawn from 1.30pm)!

Did somebody say 'live music'? If they did, you probably wouldn't be able to hear them over the sound of this mob of honksters! (Warning: band lineup may differ from the depiction, special guest appearance definitely NOT guaranteed.) Image by David Rooney.
